Fall 2014

During the fall of 2014 (my senior year), I took LMC 3403 (Technical Communications). Our first group product consisted of coming up with some hypothetical additions to an existing product and making promotional materials to advertise these additions.

My group chose to update the app for Atlanta's public transit system, MARTA. We came up with a list of features that we felt were required of the app, but weren't yet included. We decided on the following three features to "add" to the app and advertise for the project:

  1. Mobile Ticket/Breeze Card
  2. Virtual Ticket Kiosk
  3. Emergency Call Button

After deciding on these features, we made two pieces of promotional materials: a standard poster and a bus ad.

Standard Poster

The poster is meant to highlight the new features of the app, while still being easy to skim. We intended these posters be hung up in MARTA stations to encourage current users of public transport to download or update the app on their smartphones.

Bus Ad

The bus ad is kept very simple, as it is meant to provide only the necessary information. We intended this image to be placed on the sides of MARTA buses, allowing commuters using the bus and pedestrians in the city to see the ad and get all of the information they need at a glance.

After creating the promotional materials, we created a product description to give users a more in-depth look at the new features.

My role in designing all three of these promotional materials was to handle the graphics. I referenced MARTA's Branding Guide to make sure I maintained the MARTA brand identity, including logo placement and colors, while creating these materials. My main focus was to keep the overall design sleek and modern. I took inspiration from the MARTA logo to create the headers for all of the descriptions and avoided using images to prevent a cluttered design.
